Non-Monetised

What are Non-Monetised Domains?

Non-Monetised domains are simply those which do not generate any revenue. Not everyone is looking to generate money from their unused domain names. It may be that you have a website under development for the domain, which will soon go live and, therefore, do not wish to monetise for a short period of time.

You may have an existing site which you do not want full of advertisements, especially if it is a commercial site and any automatically generated adverts risk being for competitors products! Or, your site may exist purely to provide information to interested readers.

Many domains have been registered and just forgotten about. Sometimes the owner continues to automatically pay the renewal fees and on other occassions the domain lapses and becomes available again on the open market.

It may be that your domain name is so obscure that there is very little chance of anyone ever discovering it, let alone clicking from it through a paying link! In such cases it may be better to save wasted time and just leave the domain dormant.

Converting a Non-Monetised Domain into a Monetised Domain or Website

The key to generating revenue is to attract visitors who will click through the monetised links contained within your site. Easier said than done!
Of course, one of the best ways to generate visitors to your site it to have some useful or interesting content available for your visitors to read. They are then more likely to click through to adverts that interest them. Relevant content is also an excellent way to ensure your site is listed on search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc...) when web-surfers are looking for information on a particular topic.

For example, if you had a dormant site called www.VR-Games.com you could add content about Virtual Reality Games, including reveiws of available games and consoles, a discussion forum or a used games trading platform. Then you would add your Monetisation components, such as commercial links via ads and banners.

However, generating relevant content takes time and in many cases subject-specific and web-authoring knowledge. This is unlikely to be practical if you have dozens of otherwise unused domains!

If you are unsure of how many visitors your site is likely to attract, it may be worth while parking the domain for a couple of months and using the parking providors software to count the average number of hits the site receives in any given period.

The Helpful Non-Monetised Domain

Alternatively, you could simply forward your domains to other existing sites with relevant content (your host providor will have details of how to forward domains to other websites). It is a simple process but while altruistic, will not generate any revenue for you.
